Ice is coming!
With cold temperatures this week ice should be forming. My grandpa said it iced over across to the other side from his cabin on Lake Nosbonsing. I can't wait to spud a hole to test thickness. I have my pop up ice shanty repaired. I had to replace a pole and sew up a tear. A yellow driveway marker pole from Canadian Tire worked great once trimmed down.

It's great to be a northerner! I have cousins in Edinburgh, Scotland and right now they are going crazy with all the snow and cold they're having. Yet here we are wishing for ice! Our goose pond is frozen over but Golden Lake is still wide open. I didn't get out until Dec. 27 last year.

2011 fishing season in the nipissing district, seems to be another minnow shortage for this season. Alot of small minnows where caught, but the bigger minnows will be on huge demand by the end on january. Sure Shot Outdoors has both shinners and Chubbs in sturgeon falls. The price competive at 4 dollars a dozen for both shinner and cubbs. Lets hope this fishing season is as great this year. Three bad year in a row have forced the die harders after pike in cache bay, and northern lakes for winter walleye presure.

I agree about the minnows. I got one decent minnow(shiner) in two dozen, the rest were great perch minnows. That was what I was told also, that small minnows were being trapped on Lake Simcoe and it is the mnr that is not allowing minnows from the great lakes to be trapped and sold as bait. I will have to look into this as I don't know this as fact. But if true, is not cool. Its shiners, not asian carp...
