Hi reaper, welcome to our forum! I live in Astorville, which is 15 minutes south of NorthBay and located right on Lake Nosbonsing! I am also 10 minutes away from Lake Nipissing. Astorville used to have a hotel but that burnt down years ago. There are litterally dozen of motels, hotels in NorthBay. I would recommed one on Lakeshore drive as it is right across from Lake Nipissing! Now don't get me wrong I love Lake Nosbonsing but for Walleye it just isn't in the same league as Nipissing. My grandparents live on Nosbonsing and I fish it all the time! It is a pike mecca, but also decent walleye, muskie, and bass fishing. I've caught some big Walleye out of there too! But on a fish per hour basis you have to go with Nipissing. Also clean jumbo perch in Nipissing where as the perch in Nosbonsing are grub filled. Today was opening day on Lake Nipissing and I did just ok. 16 perch and 2 walleye. Callendar Bay 2011.jpg If you are coming up you are welcome to go fishing with me. I can take you to both lakes. This is my job building this website, so lucky me I get to go fishing and hunting everyday.

Marc that would be sick!!!! if you would be able to meet up and fish with me or just show me some structure within the lake!!!!

Thank you for the compliments on the website; I will definitely appreciate the positive word of mouth. So yeah definitely I'll go fishing with you, just give me details on when you are coming and we will hit the ice. I have not decided on where my hut will go for the majority of the ice season. I have two huts. The one I fished out of today is the most portable: a Pak Shack 3. When I get into some good catches of fish I'll set up my cube shack. It is portable but I leave it out all season with ice anchors of course.

Allright that sounds good. I can meet you at the comfort inn so your not driving around lost. Tell me what time to meet you and the type of vehicle your driving and I'll be there. We'll go get bait and be on the ice in time for the evening bite! I'll be checking several spots so hopefully we get into schools of fish. I think tomorrow I'm going to try off sunset point which is like 2 minutes from your hotel. I hit schools of jumbo perch last year there so we'll see. I didn't fish this morning but went to the spot I fished yesterday for this evening. I only caught one walleye and 6 perch. So tomorrow I'll move.

If you have any jigging rapalas bring those, if not I have extra. The larger ones for eyes the smaller ones for perch and eyes.
I would leave the lake trout spoons since the season is closed right now for them. Bring the gulp, just cause I heard good things about em. I would leave the plastics as I'll give you what I'm using for perch(Bro's blood worm). More on that if you have light line(4-6lb test) I'd spool up a specific perch rod on your lightest action jigging rod, if not your 8lb test will do. A little nit picky I know. The 15lb test is overkill. Normally overkill is underated but for ice fishing if the hole is free of sharp ice around the edges and your drag works well 8 lb test and under is best. I have some new plastics to try from maki-plastic.com that I got for Christmas. Digi camera for bragging rights when you get home. I think thats it, if not I'll post anything I think of.

So welcome Conger, I look forward to meeting you and reaper and doing lots of icefishing!!!

dress in layers, bring your warmest socks, winter boots, 2 pairs of gloves, insulated overalls or snow pants, windproof jacket, 2 pairs of tooks, a cooler to take home lots of fish, snacks and drinks. Um what else. I have an aerated minnow bucket , propane heater and lots of 1lb tanks as I asked for propane for Christmas too... I have a spud and gas auger. When it comes to ice fishing less is more unless you don't have an essential then all is lost and a good day can turn bad... for example, yesterday I took off my hat when I was punching holes because I started sweating. The thing is it fell out of my pocket into the slush water and I didn't have a backup took in the car so I toughed it out in my shanty but I still got cold and left before I wanted to. I say less is more only because if we move we have to carry all that. Since there is 3 of us it is not that big a deal. But alone I bring what I need and no more.

yeah I use leaders too on my tip ups. Your spoons very well could work, bring em.... Mostly I'm catching walleye on rapala jigging raps, under a slip bobber, or under a tip up. Do you use slip bobbers ice fishing? They only work inside a hut as they will freeze up outside. When I tire of jigging down goes a minnow under a slip bobber. I tried two spots today, but I'll talk about them in the morning as it is late and I have to pick my fiance, Jenn, up from work at 630 in the morning. I'll go fishing for a bit and then home to clean fish and post my pics. I caught a nice pike on my perch rod. It was a hell of a battle that I won!

Ok this is what I caught today. Callander Bay, La .jpgCallander Bay, La .jpgCallander Bay, La .jpgCallander Bay, La .jpg
1 pike, a mess of perch, and 4 walleye but only 2 keepers. As you can see I caught 2 babies that I released. Still a poor day of fishing. My hut was set in a spot in Callander Bay that turned out to be not good for perch and walleye. I only caught the pike there plus the pike from yesterday. I found out I was on top of a ridge, only about 10 feet of water. So after about 5 hours and only the 1 pike today I moved to deeper water, about 22 feet and my fortunes turned. I landed the walleye and 6 perch within 10 minutes. I went home for lunch and got back just before 3 and finished 6 perch and 3 eyes. All 4 walleye today plus the pike from yesterday were caught on a white Bro's Blood worm from Northland Tackle! I believe it is one of the best ice fishing lures and its just a tiny blood worm meant for panfish.

this is what I caught yesterday.Callander Bay, La .jpgCallander Bay, La .jpgCallander Bay, La .jpg 1 pike, 1 walleye, 1 cisco, and some perch.
I started the morning off sunset park and it was a slow morning catching just a few perch in the morning. Just as I was about to leave a school of Jumbos moved in and I couldn't get my line down quick enough. I caught some but I was getting frustrated as I lost 3 big perch just under the hole agonizingly watching them swim away. I was hungry so I went home and then returned to Calander Bay and set my hut in the spot I talked about above and after trying for a long time to jig up a perch, Whamo the pike nailed my jig and started the 100 yard dash. It took me ten minutes, about a dozen drag screaming runs before I got him in. It was a lot of fun on 4lb test on my new clam ice buster rod I got for Christmas. As you can see, the blood worm stuck in the corner of his mouth. Not the biggest pike in the world, only 5 pounds but it is a trophy to me considering what I caught it on. Oh I also caught the cisco on the same Bro's Blood Worm! They are so fun to catch, they thrash around going every which way underneath the ice.

Well guys I may try again tomorrow if I get some chores done around the house. Looking forward to the weekend???

I got lots of chores to do today so I don't know if I'll get out today.

So if your checking in at 2, do you want me to meet you there shortly after? It is a 10 minute drive to where I would take you and we could be catching fish by 3. I will come with minnows ready so we are not wasting time. We can get more in the morning....

we'll be driving out on the ice. It is now thick enough. My hut is maby a half kilometer out in about 22 feet of water. Do you want to just meet me at the boat launch where I'll be out from. I can give directions that are super easy. Just give an approx time and what your vehicle looks like and I will look out for you. No fishing for me today. I'm cleaning fish among other chores that free me up for the weekend.

I'm not sure if the castle is close to the holiday inn, but I know where the castle is. It looks like a castle.
