185 suzuki atv about 1983?

Having problems with my sons atv. I know it is carb. problem,, i have adjusted the float tab and it will only run when shaking the atv ,and after awhile it will run no problem , i am not sure if adjusting right,, any thoughts on this ..

If the gas has been sitting in it for a long while such as all winter or longer. Put fresh gas. Then check spark plugs and make sure they are very clean or replace. Check for spark. Make sure the vent tube for the gas isn't plugged with mud, dirt... it is small little tube... If after all that it still doesn't run then have a professional clean your carb. You may have all of the above on that age of atv. Many people are too quick to adjust the carb. The carb. is usually set right but problemed by old gas which would make you think its a carb problem. The carb is usually the last thing to adjust after checking for spark, clean gas, clean air intake, clean gas intake tubes. It sounds like it is not getting gas to the engine since it only runs when you shake it. Just my thoughts I hope this helps
