    Got the chainsaw out

I got my chainsaw outa the basement today. Spring is here.... It started up just fine once I put gas and oil in it. I made sure the chain was sharp and tensioned properly and the gear area free of the oil/sawdust gunk that gets cloged in there, last fall when I put it away for the winter. So I was happy it got the job I needed done. I had to rough cut some 4x4 wood.

I bought a new one at the start of this year, a little to early but I have been needing to replace my old one for quite some time now. I haven't used it enough yet! Cut a big load of wood for some back yard bonfires, everyone likes a good fire!

Yeah. I love bonfires. We had been under a fireban for most of the month from being so dry. We just got some rain this last week. I burned over 25 cords this winter and it was an easy winter. I had my chainsaw out last week for a job. I had to cut some 6 by 6 timbers for a retaining wall outside. It ran good and had a new chain. Last year was my first heating with wood and I went through too many chains. I must get better at sharpening them. I saved all my chains to have them professionally sharpened. I just don't do it very well as I get the angle wrong and make them duller rather thatn sharper. I am so now viligant when cutting to not let the bar and chain hit the ground, and when I'm felling a tree it is usually about 2 ft. off the ground to avoid the bottom that has dirt splatter from when it rains. Oh and my biggest pet peeve is when I come across hidden nails in a log. Happened at least twice last year. I am hoping to get a jump on cutting wood this year as last year I was in a rush, because we had just moved into our house and we were still unpacking. I knew I couldn't fart around. I had to get a choppin as winters are nasty here.

Started cutting wood yesterday. I finished up what was left in the backyard from last fall. I hope to get into the bush soon. I'd like to get an early start felling trees.
